Why don't you make a membership theme? Members only with a shopping cart option

Membership is functionality that should be in plugins- not themes. There are several membership plugins available to select from, such as Wishlist Member, MemberPress, s2member, etc.
Any theme can be made to promote membership. I’d recommend a business theme such as “Appply” for this, as it’s structure lends itself to marketing and promoting products and services.

This sounds like a fantastic idea. I operate in an industry where there are suppliers (me) wholesalers and then retailers. I sell direct to the wholesalers at one price and direct to retailers at another. It would be great if wholesalers could log into a members area and see their pricing without retailers being able to access it.
Further to this we create custom products for specific clients. If it was possible to create a private area where a client could log in to view their custom products without anyone else being able to access / see them that would be a very beneficial feature.

That would be sweet... Basically.. something where you can specify the number of users and not have to get them to sign up... Then them and only them can view the content you have specified for them.

I am not sure what you asking for here. Do you want the shopping system to be visible to only people that have joined the site?
