Gift Certificates!
Have not seen this feature in ANY WordPress shopping carts! It's different than a coupon code. It can be bought with a unique ID that can only be used ONCE.

When is this release going to be available?: In the release after that, we plan to allow customers to purchase gift certificates of any amount they wish.

@Trevor: We have added the ability for admin to issue store credits / gift certificates in the upcoming version of Smart Coupons.

Is there a way to add a product (like a gift certificate) where the client can put in the amount they want to pay and it just charges them that amount? This would also be useful for taking internal payments of random amounts without needing EFTPOS facility. Simply login with an internal account, put in the price and enter the customers credit card details.

We have a new Smart Coupons plugin coming up that will allow "selling" gift certificates or store credits. You can basically create a coupon and link it with any product. When customer purchases that product, they can take advantage of that coupon or if it's a gift cert / store credit, they can also send it to someone else during checkout.

I'm really interested in this but I want it to function differently to the two below.
I want it to work like a coupon code that I can set an amount and remaining balance to and the balance just decreases as the money is spent. I also to want it to function as below where I can make it a product and sell it on the store. It should also have some discount functionality so that I can sell a £30 gift certificate for £10if anyone needs them and isn't using woocommerce - The two plugins for Gift certificates in wp-ecommerce (getshopped) are
KNC gift vouchers - http://getshopped.org/fpt-plugins/knc-gift-voucher/
wpgiftcertificateplugin - http://wpecommercegiftcertificate.com - the later of which is free as it is beta. -

I'm definitely interested in this. I had bought Store Credit only to find that it doesn't work as I thought it would. If anonymous or anyone creates the plugin please let us know :)

Heyya all. I'm in the middle of trying to make this a workable item. Using the Store Credit Extension, I'm building a custom item that is required at checkout, fill in email of recipient of certificate (required) and then a loop to automatically email the certificate code and amount (store credit).
If anyone has anything to add, considerations I should be aware of, please let me in on them.

Is there any progress on the creation of a Gift Certificate? I really want this feature. I would like the purchaser to be able to add a message to the recipient and the recipient to be emailed a message with the details and a pdf Gift Certificate attached that they can save and print.

I accidentally spent some votes here when I think we should be combining them here http://woo.uservoice.com/forums/133476-woocommerce/suggestions/2288327-gift-certificates- I'm pretty sure they are both requesting the same functionality.

I have a gift certificate add-on about 95% done. It should be ready by Jan 6, 2012. Ping me at simplercomputing.net (via the contact form) if you're interested.

I have a client that needs to be able to allow clients/customers to pay and print gift certificates with a unique ID. The unique ID would then be emailed to her and logged inside wordpress so that she can verify that payment cleared and can be properly linked to a specific certificate. The certificates would then be brought into her store and spent. She would then login and mark the certificate as "used" in order to prevent any duplication of certificates (as they are simply computer printable and easy to duplicate). Seems like a fairly simple and great feature!

Some how I am sure this could be created from a Folk of the Credit Extension created by Visser Labs (http://www.woothemes.com/extension/store-credit/)
Buying a certain product will give a unique code to a user that can use it as Store Credit?

OMW so true Mike and Samantha !! I'm in the same boat! I believe there is only one wp plugin that does GC and you cant customize anything. I think this feature would put this already good cart at the top of the stack as far as wp carts go. Waay better than the wp-commerce and the wpmu cart right out of the gate, why not go for the "kill-blow".

I have also looked all over for Gift Certificate functionality. There's not much out there.
It's vital that the funds clear before the recipient receives their gift certificate, to avoid fraud and/or frustrated customers.
In my case, I'd like to be able to sell gift certificates to be used at a retail location (my business is service based, so the customers must visit us in person). We already have a point of sale system that can handle radmoose's concern regarding the diminishing balance of a gift certificate's funds.

From your description, it sounds like you want them to be able to buy a coupon code for either a preset price or a price they select. The downside of a "unique ID that can only be used ONCE" is that the customer might get a $50 code but only want to buy a $35 item during this visit. A Gift Certificate (or Gift Card) would have to be an item that you can buy (either preset or available range of prices like $5 to $500) and also a payment 'gateway' that takes care of the charges against that code/card/certificate. Also a it would need a method to provide the current available balance.
In any case. this is a great idea =)
